Description:
This Environmental Assessment (EA) is part of the “Second Tier” of NEPA environmental review under which a total of seven “Sections of Independent Utility (SIU)” along I-70 are being evaluated. This EA addresses the area designated SIU 1 which encompasses 24 miles (39 kilometers) of I-70 in Missouri generally between Independence and Odessa (Figure S-1). This EA addresses the interchange configurations considered for SIU 1, the widening strategy for urban areas, where the urban to rural transition should occur, decisions on whether I-70 should be widened to the north or south in rural areas and the impacts it may have.
